It was built as the biggest outdoors salt mine in the world due to a combination of climate conditions such as wind, sun, waterproof soil, and just a few rainy days all year round, that allows harvesting gathering sea salt and salt by evaporation. Visits to such huge premises are not allowed in groups because of safety reasons. During the trip, you will watch the 46 crystallizer containers upon the white path composed by salt washing sediments, which are installed within this site total surface of 42 thousand hectares, which produces and exports 7 million tons of salt per year.

On the enormous surfaces of the salt concentration containers, a protected area with plenty of food for birds was developed. Cormorants, white pelicans, ducks, eagles, hawks, gulls, sparrows, European goldfinch, cenzontles and many other species are part of this place richness. For these reasons, such habitat is strongly protected, and nesting areas for birds of prey have even been built.
